From January to March, our Social Value team continued to turn practical activity into measurable impact, supporting career pathways, strengthening local communities, investing in our people, and delivering environmental improvements across the areas we work in. As with every quarter, activity was recorded against the National TOMs Framework, ensuring every workshop, volunteering hour, training session, and donation is evidence-led and reportable.<\/p>\n

Simpler Recycling: Phase 2

From 31 March 2026, the next phase of the Government\u2019s Simpler Recycling reforms comes into effect for household waste services in England. By this date, local authorities must have arrangements in place to collect the core recyclable waste streams from households, alongside a weekly food waste collection as standard. In many cases, councils may choose to collect food waste alongside organic garden waste, depending on local service design and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
These reforms are intended to bring greater consistency to what can be recycled across the country, reduce confusion for residents, and improve the quality of recycling collected.<\/p>\n
Alongside these service changes, the Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed a new regulatory charging scheme for Simpler Recycling in England, effective from 3 February 2026. The EA will apply a charge of \u00a3118 per hour where it undertakes regulatory work relating to non-compliance with Simpler Recycling requirements. This reflects the cost of identifying, investigating and assessing non-compliance, and applies only where a business (or occupier of relevant non-domestic premises) is found not to be complying.<\/p>\n
What this means for customers<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re already meeting your recycling obligations, no action is required and no charges will apply.<\/li>\n
If you\u2019re still preparing for the new duties, we recommend:<\/li>\n
Providing accurate information when obtaining quotes to ensure all waste streams are included.<\/li>\n
Reviewing your waste segregation arrangements.<\/li>\n
Contacting your account manager if you need guidance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

In many cases, councils may choose to collect food waste alongside organic garden waste, depending on local service design and infrastructure.

These reforms are intended to bring greater consistency to what can be recycled across the country, reduce confusion for residents, and improve the quality of recycling collected.

Alongside these service changes, the Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed a new regulatory charging scheme for Simpler Recycling in England, effective from 3 February 2026. The EA will apply a charge of £118 per hour where it undertakes regulatory work relating to non-compliance with Simpler Recycling requirements. This reflects the cost of identifying, investigating and assessing non-compliance, and applies only where a business (or occupier of relevant non-domestic premises) is found not to be complying.

What this means for customers

If you’re already meeting your recycling obligations, no action is required and no charges will apply.

If you’re still preparing for the new duties, we recommend:

Providing accurate information when obtaining quotes to ensure all waste streams are included.

Reviewing your waste segregation arrangements.

Contacting your account manager if you need guidance.

Commenting on the changes, Go Green’s Compliance Director, Sophie Scott, said:

“While these changes are focused on household collections, they’re a significant step for the wider resources and waste sector. As the Simpler Recycling reforms progress, it’s important that organisations across the supply chain stay informed and ready to adapt to evolving collection and treatment requirements.”

Looking ahead, Simpler Recycling is being introduced in stages, and the next major milestone is 31 March 2027, when plastic film and flexible packaging collections are due to be introduced more widely for households in England. As the legislation continues to roll out, the sector’s focus will increasingly shift toward service consistency, material quality and end-destination outcomes, making clear communications and well-designed collection systems more important than ever.

From October to December, our Social Value team continued to turn practical activity into measurable impact, supporting learners into greener career pathways, strengthening local communities, investing in our people, and delivering environmental stewardship across the areas we work.

As with every quarter, all activity was recorded against the National TOMs Framework, so every workshop, volunteering hour, training session and donation is evidence-led and reportable.

At a Glance

Across Q4 2025, we delivered:

£54,952.51 in total social value delivered (TOMs-aligned).

1,551 learners supported through careers activity and sustainability education.

3,741 hours invested across training, development and delivery activity.

GreenEthos

Q4 saw our team taking practical steps to support biodiversity and improve the local environment, from small circular economy wins to hands-on volunteering.

Highlights included:

Hyde Park Allotments (Doncaster): Delivered two bird boxes made from , a simple, circular-economy initiative designed to encourage habitats and support local wildlife.

Local litter pick: five colleagues volunteered time to clear a well-used route near our office, helping keep the area cleaner and more welcoming for staff and the wider community.

Tree planting with the CDC Ranger team: three team members volunteered time to plant trees and remove barriers to growth for existing trees, supporting biodiversity and improving resilience in waterlogged ground conditions.

ReEducate

This quarter, ReEducate activity focused on careers inspiration, green skills, and interactive sustainability education, tailored to audiences ranging from primary pupils through to college learners and sixth formers.

Across Q4, we supported 1,551 learners, including through:

Careers and Employability

Wath Careers Fair: engaging with pupils from across Year 7–13, exploring routes into sustainability, waste and environmental careers.

Rossington All Saints careers fair: speaking with students about the purpose of Go Green, job roles, and the skills needed to access future opportunities.

Go Green career taster day (HQ): welcoming learners into the business to hear directly from colleagues across different functions, building awareness of the variety of roles that support sustainable outcomes. We were delighted to follow up with Harrison College and create another successful event.

Mock interviews (Meadowhead School, Y13): delivering structured interview practice with developmental feedback to build confidence and employability skills.

Sustainability Education

Eco Influence (college delivery): multiple interactive sessions exploring waste, the hierarchy, behaviour change and environmental impact, adapted for trade and construction learners as well as wider student cohorts.

Green Careers presentations: delivered at Doncaster College and North Lindsey College, linking sustainability with real-world career pathways and highlighting how “non-traditional” roles can still drive greener outcomes.

CSR & Beyond (Barnsley College): exploring ESG, CSR and Social Value, including greenwashing awareness and how businesses embed responsibility into strategy.

Primary Engagement

Eco Heroes (with partners): delivering engaging sessions that combine planet-friendly habits with early careers inspiration, including activity delivered in partnership with clients such as AmcoGiffen and Wood Transmission & Distribution (now part of the United Infrastructure Group), helping pupils connect sustainability with future aspirations.

OurCommunity

OurCommunity work in Q4 focused on employability, support for vulnerable groups, and practical help for local organisations, alongside client-supported giving.

Key activity included:

Supporting care leavers (Staffordshire House Project): volunteering time on site, helping with practical support and community connection, alongside employability input (including mock interviews recorded separately).

Skills Academy sessions (Doncaster, Worksop, Greater Manchester): delivering mock interviews and employability support for learners working toward qualifications and moving closer to work, including confidence-building coaching and feedback, plus CV support to help learners present their strengths effectively.

Expert environmental advice (Hyde Park Allotments): providing guidance on waste disposal and best practice to support the people maintaining and improving the site.

In-kind community support: donating food and drink items to support a school breakfast club and discreet food bank provision for families.

WasteSchool

Q4 also saw significant investment in strengthening our internal capability, building knowledge, confidence and compliance across key areas that ultimately improve the service we deliver to clients and communities.

Highlights included:

IOSH Managing Safely training: supporting colleagues with accredited health & safety learning to strengthen safe working and wellbeing across operational contexts.

Safeguarding training: ensuring those delivering education and engagement activity are equipped with the right knowledge when working in schools/colleges.

WasteSchool workshop rollout: delivered internally to build operational understanding of the waste hierarchy, recovery routes, auditing and best-practice decision-making.

Skills progression also continued through apprenticeship development, including ongoing vocational training and leadership development pathways.

Wellness & Health

We continued to invest in colleague wellbeing and practical support measures that help people feel safer, more supported and able to thrive at work.

This included:

Menopause Champions training: developing internal champions to improve awareness, confidence and peer support.

Mental Health First Aider refreshers: ensuring trained colleagues maintain up-to-date knowledge and can continue supporting others effectively.

Accessible wellbeing provision: practical initiatives to support dignity and inclusion for staff and visitors.

Looking Ahead

Q4 closed out 2025 with strong momentum, combining measurable client-reportable outcomes with meaningful, people-focused impact. From careers inspiration and Eco Heroes sessions to community employability support, environmental volunteering, training investment and charitable giving, every action added to the wider social value story we can evidence through TOMs.

Eco Influence Brings Real-World Sustainability

Eco Influence brings real-world
sustainability to trade students

Go Green’s Eco Influence programme was delivered to Doncaster College on 12th, 13th and 18th November 2025; six focused sessions on sustainability and trade waste management were delivered to trade students over three days in partnership with Work Placement Coordinator Abbie Sturla-Manning.

Led by Paige and Simon, Social Value Coordinators from Go Green, the sessions were carefully aligned to the students’ existing curriculum and their future career paths in industry. Rather than a generic sustainability talk, the content drilled into how waste management and sustainable practice will show up in real workplaces, from day-to-day decision making on site, through to the bigger environmental responsibilities of modern trades.

“Paige and Simon did a brilliant job at tailoring their presentation to our trade students’ curriculum and future career prospects, and how they might put sustainability practices and waste management into action,” said Abbie Sturla-Manning, Work Placement Coordinator at Doncaster College.

Professional, engaging and well organised

Across all six 45-minute sessions, the team focused on interaction and discussion, not just slides. Learners were encouraged to contribute their own ideas and experiences, helping to keep engagement high. Abbie described the team as “very professional and equipped to keep our learners engaged and involved with discussion and contributions,” adding that each session was clearly structured to make the best use of the time.

Supporting careers, enrichment and wider college aims

The Eco Influence sessions weren’t just a standalone “nice to have”, they linked directly into Doncaster College’s wider careers and enrichment offer. Students came away with a broader understanding of how the waste industry operates, the external factors influencing it, and why sustainability is becoming a non-negotiable part of professional practice.

“Our learners gained a wider understanding of the industry and the influencing factors to consider for their future careers,” Abbie explained.

A growing partnership with impact

Doncaster College and Go Green have been collaborating for over a year, combining industry talks and project work to help learners build skills, confidence and community impact.

“We’d love to continue our collaboration with Go Green,” Abbie said. “The industry talks and projects we’ve worked on together have been incredibly effective in widening our learners’ skill set and knowledge and helping them make an impact on the local community.”

She also highlighted the value of bringing external expertise into the classroom:

“I would definitely recommend Go Green’s involvement with local schools or educators. The knowledge and awareness they bring to each session is an incredibly valuable message to the younger generation, always delivered with passion and confidence around their expertise.”

As Go Green looks ahead into 2026, partnerships like this will remain at the heart of the Eco Influence programme, inspiring the next generation of trades professionals to champion sustainability wherever their careers take them.

Spotlight: Harrison College \u2013 a mock Go Green experience<\/span><\/b>
<\/span>In September, our entire Social Value team came together to deliver a new, bespoke session for Harrison College in Doncaster,\u00a0a specialist provider supporting young people with autism. We designed the session to mimic a mock Go Green, giving learners the chance to step into key business roles such as Sales, Buying and Operations. Through workplace-style interactions, students:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two days of Ringway waste workshops across Milton Keynes, Gloucester and West\u00a0Unitaries\u00a0\u2013 focusing on practical, contract-specific opportunities to improve segregation, reuse materials and reduce waste to landfill.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Ringway environmental training sessions in Hounslow and Surrey, building internal champions who can drive day-to-day behaviour change on site.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Simpler Recycling:
Construction Sector Update

The Government’s Simpler Recycling legislation continues to evolve, with the latest update (October 2025) introducing new requirements that extend to the construction industry. These changes are designed to make recycling more consistent across England, helping to reduce contamination and ensure more materials are recovered effectively.

Quick Recap: What is Simpler Recycling?

Simpler Recycling is a nationwide initiative aimed at creating a consistent approach to recycling across homes and businesses. It sets out which materials must be collected for recycling, ensuring that everyone is recycling the same core items. Under the legislation, all businesses producing packaging or waste must present recyclable materials separately for collection.

What’s New for Construction Sites?

As part of the most recent update, construction sites are now required to recycle specific materials separately from general construction waste.

This includes:

Cardboard packaging from new materials or appliances

Food and packaging waste generated by contractors on site

The update makes clear that these recyclable materials must not be mixed or compacted with other construction waste under any circumstances.

This latest guidance reinforces the Government’s commitment to improving recycling rates across all sectors, including those that have historically been more complex to manage, such as construction. By ensuring recyclable materials remain uncontaminated, businesses can help drive a more circular economy and reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill.
