Hazardous Waste Cable: RPS 276
December 14th 2023
The EA has published a Regulatory Position Statement 276 effectively classing non-WEEE waste electrical and telecommunications cable from activities involving construction and demolition, end of life vehicles, and vehicles maintenance as hazardous.
This RPS applies to operators that currently accept, store, and treat non-WEEE waste cable. This is set to be reviewed by the 31st of December 2023 and if it were to be withdrawn, operators would have to vary their existing permits, apply for a new permit, or stop accepting non-WEEE waste cable.
How does this effect the producer?
- Producers will need to ensure that non-WEEE cable on site is segregated and not mixed with any other types of waste.
- Unless you can show that the cable is non-hazardous waste, it will be dual coded and consigned as 17 04 10* and 17 04 11.
- Please advise us at the time of quoting if you are producing cable on site along with any MSDS sheets and photos; we will consult with the disposal outlets and price accordingly.
Go Green will continue to keep you updated with any further changes or updates with this RPS, but if you do require more information or have any questions, please contact your Account Manager.
