Holmescarr Community Garden
November 17th 2023
Over the course of September, five members of Go Green spent every Thursday of September at the Holmescarr Community Garden in Rossington. The garden was previously neglected but the centre had exciting plans to transform the area and make it a thriving zone for the Rossington community to enjoy. Plans include:
- Tidying the plum and pear trees for the local community to come and pick the fruit when it’s ripe.
- Package growing herbs to add to the local food train which caters for 28 local families.
- Introducing a wildflower area to boost biodiversity,
- Establishing new fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers and tomatoes, and sensory plants such as Lamb’s Ear and lavender.
With the vision for the area to be utilised by the community, but also the neighbouring nursey for lessons and outdoor play, it was vital to convert the area back into a usable space.
During the 28 hours of volunteering provided, Go Green staff carried out a variety of activities including weeding, planting, digging up old shrubs and general maintenance of the garden. Go Green are proud to have delivered £474.04 of social value through the volunteering hours. We’re looking forward to seeing the space once the project has been fully completed.
