Legislation Update

March 12th 2025

UK Procurement Act

The UK Government has just rolled out the Procurement Act, and it’s a game-changer for public sector procurement. Effective from February 24, 2025, this updated legislation is designed to make it easier for suppliers of all sizes, especially small businesses, start-ups, and social enterprises, to win public contracts.

Here are the highlights:

  • Simplified Bidding: The new ‘competitive flexible’ procedure cuts through the red tape, making it easier to bid on contracts.
  • Prompt Payments: Suppliers can now enjoy 30-day payment terms on a wider range of contracts.
  • Most Advantageous Tender (MAT) evaluation as opposed to Most Advantageous Economical Tender (MEAT).
  • Consistent Feedback: Get the feedback you need to improve and succeed.
  • Enhanced Transparency: The Find a Tender platform makes searching for contracts and submitting bids a breeze.

Plus, the new Procurement Review Unit (PRU) ensures everything runs smoothly and standards are upheld. This is a huge step towards a more efficient, transparent, and fair procurement process within the public sector.
