National Apprenticeship Week 2026

February 13th 2026

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) ran from Monday 9 February to Sunday 15 February 2026 and brought together employers, apprentices and training providers across the country to celebrate the impact apprenticeships have on individuals, organisations and the wider economy.

This year’s theme, “Skills for Life”, shone a spotlight on how apprenticeships help people reach their full potential, break down barriers to opportunity, and build the skills employers need.

Why National Apprenticeship Week Matters

In the waste sector, skills, safety and service reliability are everything and the industry is evolving fast. From smarter reporting and data-led operations to sustainability compliance and changing customer expectations, the future depends on investing in people and building capability for the long term. Apprenticeships are one of the strongest ways to do that. They combine structured learning with real-world experience, helping people build confidence and competence while contributing meaningfully from day one.

Apprenticeships and the Future of Waste Management

As the UK continues to push forward on recycling, sustainability and resource efficiency, the need for practical, job-ready skills is only increasing. Apprenticeships can help develop talent across a wide range of roles, for example:

  • Operational and site-based roles: learning safe, compliant service delivery in live environments.
  • Transport and logistics: planning, routing and customer service reliability.
  • Engineering and maintenance: keeping equipment and assets performing safely.
  • Business, admin, finance and customer support: strengthening the backbone of great service.
  • Digital and data skills: improving reporting, visibility and performance management.
  • Sustainability and environmental roles: supporting better outcomes for customers and communities.

How Go Green Support “Skills for Life”

At Go Green, we believe learning shouldn’t stop after school, and opportunity shouldn’t depend on a single route into work. Apprenticeships are a powerful pathway for people at different stages of their career, whether they’re starting out, changing direction, or upskilling for progression.

During National Apprenticeship Week, we’re taking time to recognise the value of workplace learning and the difference it makes to teams, customers and communities, and encouraging more people to explore apprenticeships as a practical, rewarding route into a long-term career.
