A Conversation with Our People Director
in light of International HR Day
May 11th 2026
Ahead of International HR Day, Go Green took the opportunity to highlight the role its people and culture play in supporting the continued growth and success of the business.
When speaking with Phoebe, People Director, the focus was on how the organisation continues to build a supportive, inclusive, and progressive workplace as it evolves, ensuring that people remain at the centre of business decisions.
Go Green’s approach to culture is deliberate and values‑led, with clear expectations consistently role‑modelled across the business. These principles are brought to life through our Employee Value Proposition (EVP), which helps embed our values into recruitment, development and leadership practices, supporting engagement, consistency and long‑term growth as the organisation evolves.
Commenting on this approach, Phoebe, said:
“We’re intentional with our culture, which means being clear on our values and role‑modelling them at every level. Building these values into how we recruit, how we develop people, and how we make decisions supports business‑wide engagement from our people in evolving the excellent culture that we have.”
Alongside culture, wellbeing remains a core focus at Go Green, with emphasis placed on practical support rather than policy‑led solutions alone. Creating space for honest conversations and aiding without judgement are key elements of this approach.
Phoebe explained:
“Good wellbeing support relies on having impactful and realistic outcomes for people that stretch far beyond policy. Providing opportunities for genuine conversation and supporting people when they are struggling without fear of judgement form part of who we are as a business.”
Career development is another cornerstone of Go Green’s people strategy; the business actively encourages internal progression and long‑term career building, recognising that growth looks different for every individual.
“We pride ourselves on our routes to progression and actively encourage people to grow in different ways, whether that’s progressing into new roles, developing specialist skills, or simply building confidence,” Phoebe said, “We prioritise advertising opportunities internally and have a robust training and development programme for each individual, guiding people at all points of their career with us.”
Leadership behaviour also plays a critical role in shaping workplace culture, with Go Green placing strong emphasis on empathy, integrity and fairness.
“Leading by example, with empathy and integrity are key for any workplace,” Phoebe said. “We encourage our leaders to actively listen, communicate openly and act with fairness and consistency for all our teams.”
Employee feedback has led directly to meaningful change across the business. Examples include Health & Safety Committee feedback resulting in investment in an onsite defibrillator, alongside enhancements to employee benefits such as improved parental leave.
Reflecting on Go Green’s culture, Phoebe described it in three words:
“Supportive, inclusive and progressive. Our people genuinely look out for one another; we’re regularly complimented on how welcome new starters are made to feel, and we’re always looking for better ways of working and supporting our teams.”
When asked what makes her most proud, Phoebe highlighted the collective strength of the organisation during challenging moments.
“What makes me proudest is seeing how we all pull together, especially during difficult times. The care, resilience and willingness to support one another says a lot about who we are.”
Looking ahead, Phoebe had a clear message for future colleagues:
“You’d be joining a business that values people as individuals, not just employees. We expect high standards, but we also offer support, trust and opportunities to grow. If you’re looking for meaningful work, the ability to be yourself, and a career with people who care — this is a great place to be.”
As Go Green marks International HR Day, the business remains proud of the people, behaviours and leadership that continue to shape a positive, values‑driven workplace, reinforcing its commitment to long‑term growth with people at its heart.
