Q2 Social Value Wrap-Up
September 5th 2025
Between April and June 2025, Go Green continued to embed our GROWW framework to local areas across the UK, delivering a broad range of social value activities, tailored to each community and aligned to our five key pillars. These initiatives, delivered both independently and in collaboration with our customers, reflect our commitment to driving long-term positive change, strengthening community engagement, and aligning sustainable waste management with wider societal impact.
GreenEthos
In support of our environmental pillar, Go Green participated in several nature-led events, including a tree-planting initiative in partnership with Doncaster Council. This project, which contributed to the creation of a Miyawaki Forest at Armthorpe Academy, delivered tangible environmental benefits:
- 600 trees planted
- 180 bags of mulch spread
- Estimated cost savings to public services of £950–£1,800
- Potential to attract over 500 plant and animal species within three years
This activity, alongside a local office-led litter pick, marked our celebration of Earth Month in April and reinforced our continued commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
Alongside these two events, we volunteered at another event for the council where three Go Green staff volunteered with a ranger at City of Doncaster Council. The site, in Hexthorpe Park, was a Miyawaki Forest, which had become overgrown with weeds. We took part and helped clear weeds to allow the sapling trees room to grow.
Edward Worral gave the following summary, “By volunteering, the saving provided by the team was approximately equivalent to £175 in contracted labour. Ten 5-7kg bags of weeds were removed from around the base of 600 trees, preventing them from overpowering the young trees and preventing their successful establishment, helping to safeguard thousands of pounds of investment in our city’s treescapes!”
ReEducate
Throughout Q2, our ReEducate pillar enabled 52 educational sessions delivered to 2165 young people, reinforcing our commitment to building knowledge and awareness around sustainability, waste, and supporting early career development. We delivered our Eco Heroes and Eco Influence programmes to a wide range of schools, including Town Field Primary School, Doncaster College, Charnock Hall Primary Academy, Fortis Academy, Hall Cross Academy, Wisewood Community Primary, and Little London Academy.
Many of these sessions were delivered in collaboration with key customers such as Wates Group, RG Group, Taylor Woodrow, TSK Group, and Ringway, demonstrating the value of working together to inspire the next generation. In addition to our core programmes, we also facilitated careers-focused sessions and supported work experience placements alongside Morgan Sindall, broadening the scope of our educational outreach and strengthening our impact across learning environments.
OurCommunity
As part of our community engagement efforts, Go Green delivered three dedicated activities, including a hands-on garden renovation project in partnership with Wates Group and tailored employability support for companions of Emmaus Hull, on behalf of Wienerberger.
In alignment with Wates Group’s Community and Conservation Month, two Go Green staff members joined forces with the team in Bexleyheath to restore a large, deteriorating garden sleeper at an L&Q Sheltered Scheme. Once on the verge of collapse, the structure was revitalised to create a safe, welcoming outdoor space for residents. Despite challenging weather, the team remained focused and enthusiastic throughout, delivering a tangible outcome that demonstrates the power of collaborative working and shared values.
Meanwhile, continuing our long-standing relationship with Emmaus Hull, we returned for a third time to deliver one-to-one CV writing support as part of a wider initiative with Wienerberger. Our Social Value Team worked closely with eight companions, guiding them through the process of building professional CVs tailored to their individual journeys and aspirations. The session aimed to build confidence and provide practical tools for re-entering the workplace, just one example of how Go Green is committed to creating lasting, inclusive impact in the communities we serve.
WasteSchool
During Q2, our Social Value team undertook internal training to embed the GROWW Framework across our own operations. A total of 12 training sessions were delivered to ensure every Go Green employee has a clear understanding of the framework’s purpose and how it shapes our social value approach nationwide. We also celebrated the successful completion of a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship, marking another milestone in our commitment to growing talent from within.
Wellness&Health
We proudly marked Mental Health Awareness Week by taking part in ‘Wear It Green Day’, demonstrating our commitment to building a connected and compassionate workplace. At Go Green, we recognise that mental wellbeing is integral to a healthy, engaged workforce, and we continue to champion initiatives that foster inclusion and support. In parallel, we continued to invest in professional development through a wide range of learning opportunities. Highlights included ISO Lead Auditor training, Fire Marshall certification, and a mock employment tribunal designed allow staff to understand the process more clearly.
Circular Collaboration with TSK Group
A standout initiative this quarter brought together the dual strands of our business, social value and sustainable waste management. In collaboration with TSK Group, we were delighted to facilitate the donation of surplus outdoor furniture to Lane End Primary School, located near one of their project sites. This initiative not only prevented reusable materials from going to waste but also supported a local educational setting with valuable outdoor resources.
“At TSK, we have set a bold target of achieving 100% circularity by 2040, and our recent collaboration with Go Green demonstrates significant progress towards this goal. Over the past year, we have been engaged in a workplace transformation project for the Medical Protection Society in Leeds. During this project, we found ourselves with surplus outdoor furniture. In line with our commitment to sustainability, we sought to repurpose these materials rather than discard them.
Our partnership with Go Green proved invaluable. They connected us with local organisations interested in the benches and tables, and we successfully found a new home for them at Lane End Primary. This initiative underscores our dedication to sustainability and highlights the positive impact we can achieve through collaboration with like-minded partners.”
Jamie Richardson – Head of Sustainability, TSK Group
These activities are a testament to the power of collaboration, purposeful action, and the investment we have made into establishing a dedicated social value team committed to delivering meaningful impact. As we look ahead to the second half of the year, we remain focused on expanding the reach of our GROWW framework, working alongside our customers and communities to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future.
